THESIS
TRADI' MODE
A BET BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNITY FOR PARISIAN DEPARTMENT STORES...
It is well known that Parisian department stores have become, over the years, renowned institutions, full of history and progress. They are known for bringing together in a single space what represents "Paris": luxury and the art of living in the Parisian style, so admired. They are now must-see places for tourists during their stay in Paris. Since their appearance in the 19th century, these department stores have tried to survive by adapting to the codes and issues of their time. But it is not easy for these temples of luxury to keep up with the times without altering their heritage, which is an integral part of their identity. The result is a paradox between modernity and tradition.

Can a department store «à la Parisienne»
share its historical values while embodying
modernity ?
LA SAMARITAINE
La Samaritaine is a department store located in Paris between the rue de Rivoli and the Seine, just below the Pont Neuf in the 1st district of Paris. Founded in 1870 by Ernest Cognacq, La Samaritaine, which had become unprofitable, closed in 2005 to refurbish its buildings and meet safety standards. Until its closure, La Samaritaine remained the largest Parisian department store in terms of size, with its four stores totalling a sales area of 48,000 m2.
ANALYSIS
EVENT BORN TO BE SAMARITAINE
La Samaritaine celebrates 150+1 years
To truly amaze its customers, La Samaritaine embraced the idea of a funfair by hosting a parade led by costumed artists - contortionists, dancers, majorettes, and comedians. A cotton candy stand, balloon sculptors, and a digital wheel complete the event with a festive and good-natured atmosphere.
TO CELEBRATE 150+1 YEARS OF HISTORY
"BORNE TO CELEBRATE "
We always learn more when we're having fun, so what better way to celebrate 151 years of history than by turning the Samaritaine department store in Paris into a playground.
This experiential journey that I am proposing is a way to give the luckiest of you a unique, playful, and memorable experience. Inspired by the world of funfairs, my journey is composed of 7 interactive terminals offering varied and innovative experiences, each corresponding to the 7 floors of the iconic cake of the event. These kiosks are there to retrace the history and to uncover all the little secrets that this place has to offer, all in a festive atmosphere.
It's more than a journey; it's a story that lasts, is shared, and lives on over time…
